“I do believe in an everyday sort of magic - the inexplicable connectedness we sometimes experience with places, people, works of art and the like; the eerie appropriateness of moments of synchronicity; the whispered voice, the hidden presence, when we think we’re alone . . . "
- Charles de Lint -
I had been channeling my inner “bad bitch” all week, which means, black nails, black leather, black lipstick, and, maybe even, a bit of a black mood. It was one of those chaotic afternoons, where it felt like events were not unfolding in my favor. The dessert heatwave of July wasn’t helping matters. The Salt Lake Valley was baking, intensifying emotions, and it seemed everyone, everywhere, was feeling a little fired up, if not, down right irritable. I convinced my sister, Zoe, to attempt a quick photo shoot, but after two failed attempts at unworkable locations, we both got a little steamed and almost called off the shoot. We would soon be out of light, and any initial enthusiasm we had started with, had crisped up like burnt toast. Then suddenly, from out of the blue, this crushed, golden velvet couch appeared on the horizon, lit up by the setting sun like a shinning beacon. We looked at each other in disbelief. The missing element . . . It was surreal, funky, over-the-top, perfect. It was exactly what we were looking for. Grace. Synchronicity. If you make the effort, the Universe will meet you beyond your wildest expectations.
