My Oath. With purity and with holiness,
I will pass my life and practice my Art." -- Jessica Seaton

Discover the beauty and craftsmanship of jewelry designer, Jessica Seaton.   Her handmade work is striking, feels magical, and has hints of earthy elements.  The pieces are composed of all the style roots that I love - organic formations, natural imperfections, and an ancient/contemporary dichotomy.   Personally, she’s beyond beautiful, and she is producing truly exquisite creations.  Jessica uses the lost wax process to create her powerful art.  “Lost wax method or casting, is an ancient process dating back thousands of years to ancient Egypt, Greece and Rome. It is still the best method for capturing exquisite detail in metal objects, which could not otherwise be produced given the complexity of their design.”  I fell madly in love with her current collection, and luckily, she was kind enough to answer a few question’s.  Enjoy, getting to know this impressive artist.  You will definitely be seeing some of her jewelry in my upcoming shoots.  I’m obsessed!

Interview with Jessica Seaton:

Name:
Jessica Seaton

Star Sign
Libra

Where are you from?
I grew up in Maryland, but have found my home in California for the past 12 years.

Tell us about Jessica Seaton Design.  How did it all begin?
hmmm ... I guess it started when I was in Big Sur, the spring of 2008.  I was playing with a lot of drift wood and antler pieces, reshaping them and hanging them on chains. When I got back to Los Angeles, I walked by a jewelry class, and six months later, Free People was carrying me.

Your collection is entirely hand sculpted and cast using the ancient method of lost wax.  How did you learn this process?
Yes. I don't think I would be making jewelry any other way.  I am a sculptor above all, and was lucky enough to have the support and guidance of Steven Hanna, an amazing jewelry designer.  He taught me the lost wax method.

What inspired your current collection?
The current collection is really just everything I really love that I have made over the last 3 years ... a lot of Native influence, a bit of morbidity ... all of the pieces seem to hold the same feeling for me.

What is the significance of the models with purple fingers in your current lookbook?
I get asked this a lot. They are my favorite part about this campaign, yet really don't hold much of a defined meaning.  Again, it's more about a feeling for me. They came out of nowhere really, I grabbed a brush and just started painting.

What is your idea of happiness?
My idea is my reality. I am happy right now.

Best advice you’ve ever gotten?
Everything is possible.

“Age is an issue of mind over matter.

If you don't mind, it doesn't matter.”

- Mark Twain -

Oh my, another birthday!  So, how old am I?  Don’t laugh, but I like to think of myself as a timeless being.  I feel like age, in terms of a number, is just a way for people to peg you into some limited aspect of who you really are.  I subscribe to the notion that we are spiritual beings having a human experience, so, in the big, big picture, we are infinite. In yoga, they say that you are only as young as your spine is flexible.  The truth is, in so many ways, age is just a state of mind.

On my birthday, my best friend, Tessa, called and said, "let's do a shoot".  I couldn't think of anything I'd rather be doing.  It was totally spontaneous.  In hindsight,  I really wish I had washed my hair, but, that's the way the birthday cake crumbles.  I picked this “red hot” leather dress to warm up the cold, gray and foggy day.  A little trip to the green house gave us a hit of warm, humid air.  We had a blast!

These days, the Aussie designers are a force to be reckoned with, and the current collection by Lenni the label, continues to push the boundaries for unique, boho, fashion forward creations.  Lenni clothing is inspired by "vintage - rock - desert - cowboy - ocean - mermaid - gypsy - moon".  They have collaborated with three amazingly talented artists -- photographers,  Julia Trotti and Brett Ruthowski, who shot the Lookbooks, and the always inventive, artist/ creator /blogger, Rachel Urquhart. (She designed the cool, tattooed palms, for the logo.)  The talent packed into this campaign is phenomenal.  Keep it coming, you lovely ladies from the land down under.

Next week, I will be doing my thing, in an upcoming shoot with some cute, new Lenni looks.  (Love, love, love them.) Check back soon, to see more from this hip, new label.
